Product Introduction
Design of Cathode Plate for Copper EW
PPO Edge Strip – Cathode Plate Protection & Insulation for Electrowinning Cells

The PPO Edge Strip (also known as cathode plate edge protector or edge sealing strip) is a critical component for protecting cathode plates in hydrometallurgical electrowinning systems. Made from Polyphenylene Oxide (PPO) , this strip fits tightly around the edges of cathode plates to provide electrical insulation, mechanical protection, and chemical resistance.

In copper, zinc, and other metal electrowinning processes, cathode plates are repeatedly immersed in hot, acidic electrolytes and subjected to mechanical stripping forces. PPO edge strips prevent edge damage, short circuits, and current leakage – extending the service life of your cathodes and reducing maintenance downtime.

How to Install and  Remove?

Installation Guide

  1. Clean the cathode plate edge – Remove any debris or old strip residue.
  2. Cut the PPO strip to the required length (slightly shorter than perimeter for tight fit).
  3. Slide the strip onto the plate edge, starting from one corner.
  4. Press firmly along the entire length to ensure full engagement.
  5. Trim excess if necessary.

Advantages of PRS PPO Edge Strips

1. High Strength and Durability

PPO edge strips are strong and impact-resistant, making them ideal for environments where mechanical stress is common (cathode stripping, handling, cell cleaning). They also resist aging, meaning they last longer than rubber or PVC alternatives.

2. Flexible and Collision Resistant

The strips are flexible, allowing easy fitting around cathode plate edges, while offering excellent resistance to mechanical impacts and external collisions. They will not crack or break under normal operation.

3. Excellent Acid and Heat Resistance

These strips withstand acidic conditions (H₂SO₄ up to 200 g/L) and high temperatures (up to 120°C), which are common in hydrometallurgical electrowinning processes. This ensures cathode plates remain fully protected throughout the electrowinning cycle.

4. Oil and Solvent Resistance

PPO edge strips resist oils, lubricants, and organic solvents commonly used in tankhouse maintenance, preventing chemical swelling or degradation.

5. Superior Insulation and Secure Fit

The edge strips provide excellent dielectric insulation (≥20 kV/mm) and fit tightly around the cathode plate edges, ensuring a strong clamping force for better electrical isolation and mechanical retention.

6. Easy to Install and Maintain

PPO edge strips are lightweight and flexible. Installation requires no special tools – simply slide the strip onto the cathode plate edge. Removal is equally easy, reducing downtime during maintenance. Their service life exceeds 2 years under normal operating conditions.

FAQ

Q1: How long will the edge strip last?

A1: >2 years under normal copper electrowinning conditions (H₂SO₄ 150–200 g/L, 40–65°C).

Q2: Can I reuse the strip after removing it

A2: Yes, if not damaged. PPO retains its flexibility and shape after removal.
