Scrap Copper Refining Process Flow
The complete refining cycle for scrap copper follows the sequence below:
- Scrap Charging: Copper scrap is loaded into the furnace chamber through the charging port, via forklift, charging vehicle or manual feeding.
- Melting & Heating: The burner system heats the furnace, melting scrap through combined flame reflection and lining thermal radiation.
- Oxidation Refining: Compressed air is injected into the molten bath to oxidize and remove impurity elements such as iron, lead and zinc.
- Slag Removal: Floating slag generated during oxidation is raked out manually through the slagging door.
- Reduction Operation: Reducing agents (wood, natural gas, etc.) are introduced to adjust oxygen content and bring copper purity to anode grade.
- Tapping & Discharging: Refined molten copper is tapped through the tap hole and transferred to downstream casting equipment.
