When setting up a modern tankhouse for copper or cobalt refining, getting your automated machinery to run smoothly on-site is a major milestone. Recently, PRS sent a team of experienced mechanical and electrical engineers to a project site in Southeast Asia. Their mission was to guide the local team through the installation and complete the full testing of a high-efficiency cathode stripping machine.

Through a clear, two-phase commissioning process, PRS ensured the machinery was completely ready for stable, long-term production.

 

In the first phase, our mechanical engineers focused on the physical foundation and structural alignment of the CSM. Precise positioning is critical to make sure the machine integrates perfectly with the rest of the refinery plant.

 

The core work during this stage included:

• Measuring the layout: Measuring the exact placement area within the workshop to ensure perfect alignment with automated tracks.
• Positioning guidance: Guiding the local team on how to lift and position the heavy machine modules correctly.
• Setting installation rules: Providing clear technical requirements for anchoring and securing the equipment structure.
• Planning next steps: Reviewing the upcoming schedule with the client and listing the exact items they needed to prepare for the electrical phase.
• Recording part data: Collecting model numbers of all standard parts to build a reliable maintenance file for the client.
   

 

Once the structural setup met our quality standards, the PRS electrical team took over to connect the "brain and nerves" of the copper stripping machine.

 

1. Scope of completed works

Our engineers completed all on-site wiring, piping, and pneumatic setups, bringing the equipment to perfect hardware readiness. The work included:

• Laying cables: Full laying and connection of power cables and control cables inside the main electrical cabinets.
• Connecting double-sided wiring: Securely connecting all cables on both the equipment side and the cabinet side.
• Connecting automation sensors: Linking all critical sensors across the entire production line to ensure smooth automation. This covered:

▪ Washing conveyor chain sensors

▪ Arrangement conveyor chain sensors

▪ Rejection conveyor chain sensors

▪ Stripping station sensors

▪ Sampling & stacking module sensors

• Arranging lines: Organizing all hydraulic oil pipes and pneumatic air pipes neatly to prevent wear and tear.

 

2. Electrical Test Results and Key Data

Before turning on the main power, PRS performed strict safety and stability tests. The entire circuit system passed with excellent results, showing zero short circuits or insulation issues:

• The phase-to-phase resistance of all three-phase loads is perfectly consistent.
• The phase-to-ground insulation test for all three-phase motors passed easily.
• No short circuits were detected between any phases or within the 3 switching power supplies.
• Key test data: Every single one of the 11 motors achieved an insulation resistance of ≥ 550 MΩ, which goes well beyond standard industrial safety requirements.
